hey cnny. (:

it's amazing how time flies.
only a few months ago,
our seniors were still battling with a's,
while we, those who participated in sva, were still very much uncertain of whether we will be able to do a good job.

now,
the j2s are carefree enough to throw away all their books, (let's be happy for them, it'll be our time to rejoice in just 11mths time, lol.) while i am proud to say that both groups have managed to produce rather pleasant documentaries that won't bore people to death.
kudos to us.
all the way from conceptualizing to filming, to editing, and lastly exporting, it's seriously tough.
but we did it, YEAH! :D
& also, not forgetting to thank zuosheng, lewis, shuning, jiawei and all other seniors who came by and gave us a great deal of help.
you're all greatly appreciated.

alright, after all these big THANK YOUs, it's down to serious work.
everyone, let's work very hard for next year, be it cnny or our studies.
2008 is definitely gonna be hectic,
but do turn up for cca,
it'll be fun fun fun for all because we will be

1. preparing for open house.
2. helping out THE ONE with their participants' videos.

eh, for more details, do ask rachel or shermaine.
haha. shirking off responsibility.

yea, so don't sian diao whenever cnny is mentioned.
there will be no more theory-based trainings but more of hands-on next year!

cheers to cnny. (:
have a great holiday and be back fully recharged for the ever-busy 2008 bah!

btw, randomly,
this is my first post. lol.

Lihui.

HELLO!

Hey people! How's your holidays coming along? Yeeting & I are currently at E-News Department, Mediacorp. Yep! It's our attachment week! :D

We're going to see WILBER PAN in 2hours time! Aren't you excited for us?! Hah :D Anyway, we're quite bored now that's why we're online & updating the blog to prevent it from rusting.

YES WE'RE REALLY BORED RIGHT NOW AND WE WANT TO INTRODUCE A VERY NICE CHINESE BOOK TO YOU GUYS! :D (CLICK ON THE TITLE IT'S A LINK)

《梦里花落知多少》

P.S: You can read it online. See! Save money!!

Well besides reading this book (WHICH YOU ALL SHOULD READ), we also learnt some stuff here at Mediacorp.

#01. Do not complain if you get into News instead of CA.
#02. Bring money for cab fare (can be claimed from the boss later on)
#03. Must rush for time so bring BREAD along.
#04. Do no fret when being 'forgotten' by the reporters you're following (how could they forget such cute little girls like us....)
#05. Do not let anyone else (besides the reporter you're with) know that you have no $$ to take cab.
#06. Do not let the other party (e.g. SCDF) know that you have no idea where their HQ is.
#07. Bring cameras to take photos. You'll never know who you're going to meet.
#08. Bring along a jacket/shawl wherever you go because you might end up somewhere cold (omg it rhymes!)
#09. Bring lots of empty bottles. (there are water coolers don't waste your house water)
#10. Be prepared to listen to some handsome/ugly man with a nice/unpleasant voice for hours.
#11. Get ready to reach home at midnight sometimes (okay, actually this only happened to me, ONCE)

That's probably all we've learnt so far. Oh wait, I think there's still one more.

#12. If you want to send a tape back to Mediacorp, tell the cameraman what you want to send back so that there is no tape wastage :D

So... I think that's about it. Most importantly, READ THE BOOK WE INTRODUCED!!!

Lots of love,
Shermaine
& Yeeting (who just laughs at what I type)

hello!~

pls be reminded that the
FINAL TRAINING for this year is:

this wed : 24/10
same time (2.30pm) [most likely, but to be confirmed]
same place (IT resource rm 1)

ciao everyone! cyaaa... (:

rachel_

hello people!!!

hope y'all did your best for promos!! (: time to get back to training...

CNNY training with trainers resumes:
Wed, 10th Oct
IT resource room 1
2pm-5pm
(can be earlier or later, depending on diff grps.)

pls do come and try to complete as much of your group video as possible!!

okay that's it for now people, and hope you get back great results on friday!!!

oh and just in case you're wondering what we're actually doing for open house, mr cheng will be playing the videos made by CNNY for the secondary school students to see thru the TV broadcast.. yepp so you guys can slack for friday..

see y'all again soon :)

rachel_

hey people~

i hope the J1s will read this. it's really hard to communicate with you guys as a whole nowadays.

i know it's near promos and all, and i know everyone's really busy... but let's not sacrifice the already very minimum time we have for CNNY each week.

i hope we aren't taking CNNY for granted, cuz as Mr Cheng has said, when we compare ourselves with other CCAs, they train more than we do. our 1 day per week is all we have and i hope we'll all go for it. Mr Cheng was also kind enough to arrange appropriate timings for us because he considered the fact that we have our promos to worry about.

i hope you guys'll come regularly for future trainings. even if it's just a 2-3 hour training, it's essential for us to know what they're teaching us. i don't want to sound like i'm begging you guys to come. but we really don't have to wait for a threat (like during training today) to do this.

as much as you guys want the CCA to be united, i also hope for the same thing. so let's not wait for one another to do something. cuz nothing's going to happen like that. let's just do it together. if there's anything you want to say, just say it. it's been really quiet since we J1s took over. i hope you guys'll be honest with me as i am now with y'all. we can't read each others' minds.

CNNY's not mine, not the excos'. it's OURS. if one person falls, we all fall together. i want us to all be proud of CNNY. but it has to start somewhere more fundamental... like showing up for trainings.

so i hope you guys'll think about what i said. these are just words, just my dreams for CNNY. i hope it was straight-forward enough for you guys to understand... because the impression we're giving to others right now, isn't going to get us very far.

so let's pick ourselves up and keep going now--- it'll all be worthwhile in the end i promise.

i admit it's my fault that i didn't make this clear before. nevertheless, i hope now we'll be more motivated to do our best for CNNY, cuz everyone counts. all 25+ of us.

one thing that struck me today was when Mr Cheng told us that the college holds CNNY in high regard. and i thought, if we ourselves don't, how far can we get?

it's not too late to make things change for the better.

so don't slack or give up, everyone. =) if you feel like you're quite free, get yourself involved in helping others. our duty's to bring CNNY to a greater height. and i'm sure we're able to achieve it together!

rachel_

heyhey---

Snakie

hi everyone!

it's my first time posting here... and i find myself a little lacking in words. (: [just thought i'd post my thoughts to start off... im sure the rest of the words will flow...]

when i first stepped into nanyang, i really didn't know what to expect. everything was new.

new environment, new culture, new friends, new seniors. initially i felt disconnected to almost everything... but thankfully after that, i started to find my way back on the track.

it took time, effort and courage for me to open up to people i was not familiar with. and all that was worth it because now i'm quite comfortable where i am.

i guess i can draw a parallel from that to CNNY. having started off not knowing anyone or anything, it also took time, effort and courage to be where i am now. i'm sure it has been that way for the rest of you as well.

Yi Fang has told me, "it's going to be a long journey." so my hope is that we'll forge a meaningful and lasting friendship that will carry us through. and may it be one that we will all look forward to walk through together as a united cca.

of course, i don't know all of you guys yet. but time will help build the relationships. as long as we're all willing, i'm sure we'll all bring CNNY to a greater height!

i'm definitely not just referring to the excos. now that the number of j1s are close to 20 people, i hope we all see a greater need for everyone to be a part in the building up of CNNY. you guys are the arms and legs of CNNY, just as essential. so let's look forward to working together. (:

our seniors have stepped down, but their footprints still remain for all of us to follow. the journey may be the same, but the lessons learnt will probably be different. (:

i look forward to seeing you guys again when school reopens. for now, let's work hard for what's ahead-- midyears. to you guys and the j2 seniors, all the best and jia you for your mid years!

till we all meet again,

:) rachel

And a big thanks to all (especially the J2s!)who helped out in these two days' of media camp!

Love Ya!
Yifang =)

Yoz!

Somehow I'm quite nervous yet excited about the upcoming Media Camp...hohoho...

Anyway, Just wana add on some more things.

1. Bring a jacket if you think LT3 is too cold for you.
(I was almost frozen to death last wed during the rehearsal...)

2. Pls put your bag at the back of LT3 on first day of Media Camp. You may want to take your valuables with you when you are out for filming with the schools.

oh~ I've exchanged our blog url with J-fire's. So visit them if you are free! ^^

Hope everything will run smoothly for the camp! =)

Those who are interested in running for an exco post, you may still register with me.
So far I have 15 people on the list.
If you think you have the passion for our CCA, please do not hesitate to become an Exco!
We Need You!

Frankly speaking, before I joined CNNY, I didn't know anything about producing a news clip.
Most of us were from very different CCA backgrounds. In fact, among us we have people from NPCC, Choir, Band, Table Tennis, Red Cross, Volleyball, Media Club, etc.
So experience is not the priority but your enthusiasm for CNNY.

So yea, take up the challenge and bring CNNY to a greater height! ^^

See Ya!
Yifang =)

ps: Guess what was my previous CCA? Those who know cannot answer! muahahaz.. =P

Please also bring along $15 dollars for our new CCA tee. It is compulsory to buy and we will need to use it on media camp itself. TY.

Snakie

Hey J2s

Are you wondering what to write for your SGC?

Here are some events that you can consider.

1.Roving DV / Campus (so long as your project had been sent to Mediacorp, you can write about it)

2.Mediacamp 06 and 07

3.NY Nonstop (director, camraman, scriptwriter, etc)

4.Mediacorp Attachment (Applicable to some only)

5.BJ Competition orgarnised by 958 last year (if you had participated)

6.SVA

Hope you find this useful. =)

Pls also remember to inform kaili your CCA T-shirt (new) size latest by fri.

Thank you.

Yifang =)

Hey J1s!

Are you interested to be an Exco of CNNY 07-08?

Here are the post that you can choose from:
1. Director
2. Deputy Director
3. Head of Reporting (English)
4. Head of Reporting (Chinese)
5. Head of Editing
6. Deputy Head of Editing
7. Head of Camera
8. Deputy Head of Camera
9. Head of Logistics

Please note that there will only be 9 Excos in your batch.

Similar to last year, we will start our exco election after Media Camp 07 on 30 May.
You are eligible of application if you help out in Media Camp(for at least one day).
Therefore, regardless you are a new member or not, so long as you have helped out in the camp, we welcome you! =) (This is because usually we use Media Camp as a platform to observe your performance. If you fail to turn up, all of us won't know your capabilities)

For those who are eligible, you are given 1-2 mins on self-introduction.You are allowed to choose two positions that you want the most. After which, your friend/supporter will come forward and convince us why you should be elected.

When all the candidates and their supporters have finished, we will start our voting. Both J1s and J2s must vote.
Your vote is compulsory and confidential.
(However, final decision will not be made base on popularities, but your overall performance)

You can leave after casting your vote.
New batch of excos will be notified through phone calls on that very evening.
So wait for our calls.

Please feel free to tag at the tagboard should you have any enquiries.

Becoming an exco is a challenge.

Hi All

Hope you will have a better understanding after reading the comments below!
It'll be very useful for us to produce our news clips in the future!
Enjoy! =)

MEDIACORP NEW'S ROVING DV 2006 - FEEDBACK

SCHOOL
Nanyang Junior College

ENTRY
Film Festival

BROADCAST STATUS
Aired on 8 Oct 2006

JUDGES'FEEDBACK
Playing on the creativity of the JC's film festival made for an excellent theme for this report. It was a fun story, the students' response to the Film Fest came across well.

There were however some technical glitches to take note of for future reports.

The Chinese interview was done against a very noisy background.

The colour balancing was slightly problematic with some parts of the video appearing a little greenish.

The sound mix between different visuals was also a little abrupt at some points, especially the mix to rock band and away from rock band. One way is to fade up and down slightly before transitions where there is a distinct change in the level of ambience sound.

That said, we think this was a good clip and we are glad we had it for broadcast on our news bulleting, and we look forward to more entries from NYJC for Roving DV this year.

SCHOOL
Nanyang Junior College

ENTRY
MP Dialogue and Homecoming

BROADCAST STATUS
Aired on 18 Nov 2006

JUDGES'FEEDBACK
An interesting story, with a good mix of natural background sound and voice-voer. the pictures were well composed and well-shot, there was a good variety of pictures. the MP's connection with the students came across clearly.

However, it would have been interesting to have also heard what the MPs had to say about their own experiences as students. This could have made for some very engaging sound bites- eg what did they think of exams, boy-girl relationships, discipline in the JC etc. This was a golden opportunity which was not taken advantage of.

Student's piece to camera:
This came across a little hesitant. Remember, you are the reporter on the ground-your viewer wasn't there at the event. You know what transpired, you are the expert, so that confidence should come across. Aside from that, it was a very good delivery, you maintained eye contact with the camera throughout.

FYI- this clip was disqualified from the contest as the original entry submitted had a factual error with the MPs wrongly addressed as "Ministers". Factual accuracy is a vital criteria for all news reports.

However as this is a very good clip, MediaCorp News had contacted the school to re-submit an amended clip, so that it could still be aired even though it had been disqualified from teh competition itself.

=)

Hi all

It's me again! ^^
There's CCA on this coming Wed.

The Television News Archive collection at Vanderbilt University is the world's most extensive and complete archive of television news.

In case you are wondering where I got all these from, well, they are from this website --> HERE

Happen to saw this postcard about Creative Industries Scholarships and found that Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) actually provide scholarships.
It says "The Media Education Scheme aims to build up media manpower capabilities in the TV, radio, film, publishing and digital media sectors".

hmm... Will I have the chance to get it? hmm...

Anyway, I've not explore all the webbies above, but just a quick browse, so do tell me if you find any interesting videos~

Hey~

click the link HERE to see our National Day Celebration video for DV Campus last year.

After reading the comments below I have a clearer idea on how to produce a better news clip.

Hope you find it useful too!

Yifang =)

Hi

A Big Thank you to those who came down to help yesterday!
I believe it's an unforgettable experience for us as we don't always come across a 30th Anniversay celebration with this large scale.

I've received quite alot of positive comments on our 30th Anni video. Great job everyone! =)
Thank you to those who had helped to make it possible in one way or another.
The 3 weeks that we'd spent on storyboard-drafting, filming, interviewing and editing had certainly paid off. ^^

Take a good rest on labour day and we'll see each other again on 2nd May!
As usual, we will meet at 3pm in AVA Room.

Someone reflected to me that there wasn't enough acknowledgement for our MCs for the talkshow... hahahha... well well well, indeed, i was rushing for my previous post, so i only briefly thank our MCs, sorry about that!! =)

No doubt, it's defintely not an easy task to be a MC, let's applaud for their courage!! Also, thank you for taking time off to rehearse and practise beforehand!! hmm.. now that you have the experience, maybe can coach our MCs for the next talkshow? haha ;)

Now that we have completed our Block Test, it's time we embark on our cca activities!

There is CCA on this coming Wed 28 March 3pm at AVA room. Both J2 and J1s need to attend.

And we are featured on our school website!!
here is the link--> NYJC
Check it out!

Oh! and Shuning bought some games for our CCA! they are:

Enjoy your weekend!

Yifang =)

Woah~ what a busy week.

I am pleased to inform you that we have our talk show - Why Don't You Talk? on 7 March - first time in this year. There were some last minute changes, yet the event went on rather smoothly nevertheless.

This could not be done without the efforts that our excos had put in. A big Thank you to Jiemin, Kaili and Jiawei!! ^^ and our adorable Shuning too! though she's not in charge of Talkshow, but she still helped to look for our guest speakers! thank you! =)

Of course, we had pengxi and michelle who were in charge of the booth. Then also Zuosheng who helped with the AV system, Desmond and Shuning for filming the talkshow and our 2 wonderful MCs =)

Last but not least, to our members and teachers who had helped us to make this event a success!!

THANK YOU!

here is the result of 8th SVA. Tkae a look if you are interested =)

Lewis is supposed to update this but he has fallen ill for the past one week, so here i am.

Just to keep you inform of what we are doing currently.

CCA Bazaar is on this coming Wed, 7 March.
Other than the booth, we are also holding a live talkshow at the atrium.
It is a discussion between teachers from the Arts and Science Departments respectively on the topic - “Which prepares the students more adequately for life – a Science education or and Arts education?”
Please join us on that day to see what are the opinions of our teachers. =)

Our Bi-weekly show - NY Nonstop is still going on.
Ep3 is on the way. This episode is done by Shuning and Desmond's group.
Starting from Ep4 we'll cover events that happen this year. So do look out for it on school broadcast system.

Anyway, all the excos went to SVA prize-presentation with Mr Cheng yesterday.
We got a silver and a gold award.
Congratulations to both groups! =)

Nice banners and lighting (look like a spaceship though)!

Alright, see ya on Wed at the CCA Bazaar!!

Yifang =)

Guess this has become my personal blog for the time being..hahaha..

hmm.. I would like to share a little story with you on this very first new year day~ =)

It happened on the first day of my Primary 6 and we had a new form teacher for our class. After introducing his name, instead of telling us more, he requested us to ask him any questions that we want to know about him. We were only given 5 minutes to do so.

As that was the first day we met our new form teacher, everyone was very shy and dared not raised any questions. After one minute or so,someone finally asked a question and slowly the ball started rolling. Just when everyone got excited and wanted to ask more, our form teacher said,"sorry, time's up! Ask no more." After a pause, he continued,"when a chance is given, just grab it, for when it's gone, it'll be gone forever"

-end-

I don't know how you feel after reading this short story. But I myself did learn something out of it.

Like what I have mentioned when the new term starts, I wish to see more interactions and closer bonding among our members and I am glad to see some improvement compare to last year! =)
However, of course there are rooms for improvement especially with the J1s joining us soon. We J2s must attract the talents and ensure that our CCA continue to bloom after we leave in 4 months' time.

My seondary school teacher once told us this:

Ordinary people wait for chances

Smart people grab chances

Wise people create chances

Our CCA is about chances, so which one do you want to be?

=)
