MEDIACORP NEW'S ROVING DV 2006 - FEEDBACK

JUDGES'FEEDBACK
Playing on the creativity of the JC's film festival made for an excellent theme for this report. It was a fun story, the students' response to the Film Fest came across well.
There were however some technical glitches to take note of for future reports.
The Chinese interview was done against a very noisy background.
The colour balancing was slightly problematic with some parts of the video appearing a little greenish.
The sound mix between different visuals was also a little abrupt at some points, especially the mix to rock band and away from rock band. One way is to fade up and down slightly before transitions where there is a distinct change in the level of ambience sound.
That said, we think this was a good clip and we are glad we had it for broadcast on our news bulleting, and we look forward to more entries from NYJC for Roving DV this year.

JUDGES'FEEDBACK
An interesting story, with a good mix of natural background sound and voice-voer. the pictures were well composed and well-shot, there was a good variety of pictures. the MP's connection with the students came across clearly.
However, it would have been interesting to have also heard what the MPs had to say about their own experiences as students. This could have made for some very engaging sound bites- eg what did they think of exams, boy-girl relationships, discipline in the JC etc. This was a golden opportunity which was not taken advantage of.
Student's piece to camera:
This came across a little hesitant. Remember, you are the reporter on the ground-your viewer wasn't there at the event. You know what transpired, you are the expert, so that confidence should come across. Aside from that, it was a very good delivery, you maintained eye contact with the camera throughout.
FYI- this clip was disqualified from the contest as the original entry submitted had a factual error with the MPs wrongly addressed as "Ministers". Factual accuracy is a vital criteria for all news reports.
However as this is a very good clip, MediaCorp News had contacted the school to re-submit an amended clip, so that it could still be aired even though it had been disqualified from teh competition itself.
